Symposium Course Description:
A key challenge of conducting surveys, registries and other post-approval prospective observational studies is finding enough “real-world” participants. Through its network of community pharmacists, McKesson knows and connects with a high volume of these patients every day. Hear from a community pharmacist and an expert in pharmacy-based patient recruitment from McKesson about how to find eligible, informed and interested real-world patients by leveraging prescription data and pharmacist-patient relationships that are unique to the community pharmacy setting. Speakers will explain the StudyLink Program process, share case studies and participate in a Q&A.
- Understand the value of leveraging prescription data and pharmacist-patient relationships to recruit participants into post-approval prospective observational and other types of studies.
- Realize the opportunity within the community pharmacy channel for identifying and engaging a large pool of “real-world” patients for prospective observational studies.

Carrie Hurwitz is responsible for the development and implementation of new business opportunities to meet evolving customer needs at McKesson. After joining McKesson in 2009, her initial focus was on McKesson’s hospital and health system customers, with emphasis on ambulatory pharmacy. Her current responsibilities are centered around the creation of new capabilities to aid in drug development, specifically with respect to patient recruitment for clinical research.
Prior to joining McKesson, Hurwitz gained industry experience working for pharmaceutical and biotechnology manufacturers, primarily dedicated to clinical trial management and drug development strategy.
Carrie holds a BS in Biology from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and an MBA from the Haas School of Business at the University of California at Berkeley.
