A Home IT Tool to Promote Seniors' Independence
October 9, 2013 | The European collaborative project Secure Active Aging: Participation and Health for the Old (SAAPHO) this week released the first prototype of a home IT tool for seniors, to promote the three major prongs of the WHO's policy on active aging: health, security, and social participation. The tool, which is built into a tablet, offers users direct access to their health data and the ability to monitor key health indicators at home; integration with a home security system that detects temperature, gas, CO2, movement in the home and other variables; and simplified social networking tools with intuitive interfaces for sharing messages and photos. The prototype has been offered to 40 test users at the Aging Institute in Barcelona and the Union of Senior Organizations in Slovenia. Barcelona Digital Technology Center
